Several times I experienced being on a flight and it got canceled but I got the information way later than it was available.
Another thing: delayed flights are often directly connected to additional costs. (You miss your shuttle, connecting flight, you have additional costs because you need to take a taxi instead of taking the metro...)
So data about when plains start and land are public. There could be an insurance/prediction market on this. Basically you a) get better information about the real status of the flight and b) you can insure against the flight being late.
